This spring, a number of colleges and universities have named new athletic directors. In some cases, the position has been filled from within by an applicant holding an interim title. Here is a roundup of recent comings and goings.
At Ball State University, Bill Scholl becomes the school's Athletic Director after spending 23 years in athletic administration the University of Notre Dame.
San Jose State University has appointed Marie T. Tuite as Interim Athletics Director effective immediately, replacing Tom Bowen, who has resigned to become Athletics Director at the University of Memphis.
At Brown University, Jack Hayes, a Providence, RI, native, will take over as Athletic Director after eight years in the same position at Hofstra University. Meanwhile at Hofstra, Executive Associate Athletic Director Danny McCabe will become Interim Athletic Director as the school begins a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis.
Saint Peter's College has announced the appointment of Joseph Quinlan as the Director of Athletics, a position he held on an interim basis beginning in November. Previous to working at Saint Peter's, Quinlan was Director of Athletics at Seton Hall University from 2005-2010.
Effective May 1, Scott Lazenby will become the permanent Director of Athletics at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He previously led the department on an interim basis for eight months.
On Monday, April 23, Scott Koskoski assumes his duties as Director of Athletics at Chatham University. Koskoski spent the past year as Senior Associate Athletic Directorat the University of Denver.
When Paul Vecchio takes over as Director of Athletics at Alfred University in July, it will a bit of a homecoming for him. Vecchio, who has been Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communication and Sports Administration at the University at Buffalo since 2006, previously spent three years (1992-95) as Sports Information Director at Alfred.
At California State University Stanislaus, Michael Matos will take over as Athletic Director on May 21. Matos is a former University of San Diego Senior Associate Director of Athletics.
Dawn Stewart was recently named Director of Athletics at Otterbein University. Stewart, 35, is a 1998 graduate of Otterbein and will replace Dick Reynolds, who retired in March after 43 years at Otterbeing. Stewart leaves Capital University, where she served as Athletic Director since June 2008.
